VALENTINE’S DAY EXTRAVAGANZA….FEATURING JOHN GABB
Our February meeting will fall on Valentines Day….we’ll meet at the regular time and place, Park District Building, 7 pm. Member, John Gabb has graciously consented to present a demonstration on encaustic painting. This ancient medium uses hot wax as the vehicle for the paint pigment which results in a luminous quality to the final work.
We will have canvases for the yearly project available at a cost, entry fee of $15.
Remember to bring a work in progress and a Valentine smile to share (bring your Valentine too). Hopefully the transparent oil workshop will give us lots to show off!
Please remember the Children’s Show which takes place the weekend before our meeting, we need lots of help!
Stay warm and see you on the 14th.

DEE SIEGMUND WORKSHOP RESCHEDULED…..
Thanks to a short-lived but forceful ice storm the transparent oil workshop was rescheduled to February 4. We will be meeting at the Ballard Nature Center in the basement (entrance on the back of building) with the starting time at 9am. You can arrive after 8:30am to set up. Bring a canvas or two, your paints and brushes, easel, etc. We will work until about 4 pm. Dee will help us learn which pigments are transparent and how to approach their use. You may bring a still life set up or photo to use or work from what Dee uses.
Cost for the workshop is $20 for members and $25 for non members. To register phone Becky at 217-343-2827.
ANNUAL GROUP PROJECT….
Several people picked up a 12″ square canvas at the January meeting. They will be available at the February meeting too. Think about doing more than one. The canvases are $15 and are automatically entered in a competition and show to be held at Joe Sippers in July. The paintings will be unveiled at our annual June potluck and will serve as our group project.
BOWLING BALLS……!!!
We had discussed decorating old bowling balls as a project. There are several who have found some. We will have a silent auction of our “magic balls” at the annual adult show to raise funds. In the past we did desks, lamps and chairs…this one seems like it could really be fun. Please plan on participating, if you need a bowling ball let Becky know and we’ll be on the lookout for morel.
SHELBYVILLE GALLERY UNDER DEVELOPMENT…
Carol Kessler, retired art teacher and artist, has purchased a 4,000 sq. ft. building in downtown Shelbyville. She plans studio spaces, gallery space, restrooms, there is a ballroom with stage and a kitchenette.
Carol is keeping us in mind for a future exhibit. She will be readying the space a portion at a time with studios and a gallery her long range plan.
Good luck in her endeavor to further arts in our area. Thanks for your many efforts, Carol.
NORTON CHRISTMAS PROJECT…
We were entertained by Michael Watts of the Tarble
