President Notes November 2017
The October meeting was well attended and member participation was great! I want to thank Vicki Stuckemeyer and Sharon Moss, not only for the wonderful refreshments, but for taking my “hint” and bringing in their art to share with us. Any member should always feel free to bring in a work in progress or a finished piece and critiques will remain free!
There was discussion and interest in reviving a few past Guild activities. One past activity was having a featured Artist of the Month and we already have EAG Artist Annabelle Miles Black volunteering for our November 14th meeting. Thank you Annabelle for sharing your work with the group. Everyone is encouraged to participate as our Artist of the Month.
Please give me a call if you have a suggestion or idea for entertainment at our December Christmas Potluck on the 12th.
Stacey Zerrusen and Donna Kutcher will be providing refreshments at our November 14th Meeting, @ 7 PM. Hope to see you there and don’t forget you can bring a guest!
“Mixed Media Collage with Acrylics” by past EAG president, Jan VonBokel, a well known, award winning area artist and instructor. Jan says it will be hands on and fun! Members will need to bring Elmer’s glue stick, scissors, a couple of old magazines and plastic to protect your table space. Jan says she will bring paint, brushes and canvas pads but feel free to bring a small size (11×14) canvas board if preferred.
Jan Kappes also entered the recent Artoberfest Show sponsored by the Sullivan Art Association displayed at Catherine’s Gifts & Gallery in Sullivan, Il. Jan was awarded Best of Show for her Inkling “First Hand Mercy”.
Barb Brummer entered the Annual Fall Paris Art Show at the Bicentennial Art Center in Paris, Il. She received an Honorable Mention for her watercolor titled “Night Train”. Barb also received a choice award from the Paris Bridge Club for her pastel “Reflections on the Lake”. This is a juried show running until November 10th.
Jan Kappes states “I was pleased to be awarded one of 5 Merit Awards at the 63rd Annual Paris Fall Art Show in Paris, Il.” Jan further explained that this show is open to regional artists in both Illinois and Indiana. “It is always a fun and interesting show since it is open to most media, except photography for which they have an exclusive show each summer. This organization also has their Paint Illinois Show in the spring.”
Sam Tucker took 3rd Place for his “Digger Two” Sculpture at the Madden Art Center in Decatur, Il. This was an International juried show sponsored by the 510 Gallery in Decatur. Jane Frye, a local artist who has given presentations for us won Best of Show.
Monthly Raffle (Another older EAG Tradition to mix things up a little!) Members wanting to participate may bring items to each of our future meetings to donate such as a small painting, painted cards, an art book, a set of brushes, canvas boards or anything art related that you are done with or it’s been setting on your shelf awhile. One item will be raffled off by drawing each week during refreshment break time. Extra items brought in will be stored in the store room by the racks. Tickets may be purchased for $1.00 each with proceeds going to the EAG.
Votes for “Theme” of choice were collected and anything to do with “Oceans, fish or any aquatic life” came out the winner! Paint or Photograph away folks and bring your creations to our potluck at the last meeting of the year in June, 2018!
