Southern Illinois Art Workshop, Inc.
May 17-19th, 2010 Art Workshop Retreat to be held at DuBoise Center Camp offers workshops to interest all artists.
Lori Catesini of Champaign, Il will teach Inspired by……..Create art from nature inspired by a master artist.
Draw or paint from nature, the landscape, or a still life in the style of an artist your admire. Let O’Keefe, Van Gogh, Matisse, Seurate or Monet teach you about line, color, form, brush and drawing technique and composition. By consciously trying on another artist’s style you will sharpen your powers of observation, expand your creative vocabulary and stretch your technical skills. The possibilities your explore will enrich your personal work.
Students have the option of working from the landscape surrounding our classroom, a photograph, still life or their imagination. Students may use any media (oils, acrylic, watercolors, pastels, pen and ink or pencil). Supply list will be sent to students.
John Gabb of Effingham will teach Alternative Water Media Workshop. The media to be covered – egg tempera, casein, gouache, acrylic, and watercolor pencil.
Most artists who work in watercolor do so in transparent medium, but there are several other water media which offer alternative creative opportunities. The media can be used separately or combined to create unique works of art. John will introduce each media in the workshop and give the participants an opportunity to practice with each. Emphasis will be placed on pluses and minuses of each medium, the surfaces on which they can be used, and which can be combined and which cannot.
Because this sampler type workshop will require small quantities of supplies many artist do not have on hand, we will be providing some dry pigments egg yolk emulsion distilled water, Casein paints, some gouache paints and some clay board panels for use in the class. If the student desires to purchase more of these they may do so. A complete list of supplies will be sent upon receipt of registration.
Clare Smith of Effingham, IL and Bradenton, FL will teach Watercolor techniques.
Clare plans to spend the first day on landscapes and or the picture of your choice. You might want to choose a landscape since that is what we will be concentrating on. The second day I will demonstrate “throwing of paint” to create imaginative paintings. We will work on the negative painting to create depth. Supply list will be sent to students.
