EAG May 2020 News

Letter from the President
As we embark on whatever May has in store for us, I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. While it has been a challenge to maintain social distancing over the past two months, it has awakened us to some of the great things we are all missing. I know I have enjoyed the time with my kids, I’ve learned to appreciate the good weather, and have done my best to find ways that I can give back while still keeping myself and my family healthy. Stay strong, stay safe, and know that if you need anything, I am here to help.
Due to the current situation, we will be canceling our May meeting as well. Please cross your fingers that come June 9th (at 7 pm), we will all be able to gather together again at the Ron Diehl building.

We will have 2 positions, Secretary and Treasurer, open for the 2020-2022 term. Anyone interested please contact Stacey Zerrusen or Sue Drummond. This is a great way to be involved in decision making within the Art Guild. The positions really are not much work and your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Quarantine Suggestions…
Our yearly theme is the elements of earth, wind, water, and fire. As in previous years, members create a piece of work that falls into this theme and bring their work to our end of year meeting in June. Now is a great time to come up with an idea and get started!
Another group suggested trying to create daily to lift spirits and do a sort of creative journaling on the current state of our nation. This would be fun to bring to our next meeting to share how the COVID19 epidemic is affecting each of us.
12×12 show will be coming up in July. This is a show held at Joe Sipper’s where all work is to be created on a 12”x12” canvas, the subject matter is up to the artist.

Children’s Art Show – CANCELLED, well sort of
The Children’s Art Show being held at the Effingham Public Library has been canceled in its normal capacity. See the statement below for more information. At a time where innovation and community support are more necessary than ever, local art educators have looked to embrace both in order to give local students an opportunity to show off their creative talents. The Children’s Art Show, normally held during this time, was unfortunately canceled due to the current circumstances. However, working with the EPC, the opportunity for students to once more participate in the show was made available. We are appreciative of those at the Effingham Performance Center for being such huge supporters of the arts and their assistance in showcasing the talent in Effingham county. In early May, the community will have the opportunity to view the young and talented students’ work on the marquee at the EPC from the safety of their cars. We thank all who support the arts and in bringing the community together as we all navigate new and uncharted territory.
Sincerely,
Emily Petty (Teutopolis Unit 50)
Stacey Zerrusen (Dieterich Unit 30)
Weston Peno (Effingham Unit 40)
Rita Feldhake (Sacred Heart)

NOTE: Please keep an eye on the Facebook page and local media outlets for
an exact date. We intend to have them show-up and running by May 7th but are still working out some of the details.
