President Notes October 2019
Hello Fall! While our weather may not get us in the Fall spirit, I’m hoping that will change soon and carry us into the season of pumpkin spice, sweatshirts and campfires. We kicked off our 2019-2020 season in August with a wonderful turnout of members and several new faces. As always, we welcome you to bring a friend. Both artists and art enthusiasts are welcome! Our October speaker is sure to show you a new side to the art world with her delicious cookie creations that are true works of art!
Our October meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 7 PM at the Hendelmeyer Rec Center in the Fine Arts room. We hope to see you there!
Please be thinking about a possible theme for this years artwork. We will be voting at our October meeting.
Liz Wernsing, with CookiesToGo, will be sharing her sugar cookie creations. Liz has a wonderful ability to think outside the cookie cutter when creating her edible works of art. She can be found most Saturdays at the Effingham Farmers Market selling her creations.
Nancy Guilliams and Barb Althoff will be providing refreshments at our October meeting.
Artists are encouraged to begin preparing works for a swap out at the Effingham Performance Center. Up to three pieces per person, photography is welcome. In order to make the display more fluid, we would like all work to be dropped off on October 14, 15, and 16 anytime between 10 AM and 4 PM. Artists should pick up their old artwork when dropping off new. Please speak with Rick Jorn or Kim Jansen when dropping off work. All pieces should be wired for hanging and labeled with your name, artwork title, media and price. In addition, a form with the same information should be left with the artwork. We would like larger pieces if possible. Jan Vonbokel and Barb Brummer will be working to hang the artwork on Thursday, October 17. We will discuss more details at our October meeting. Any members available to assist in the hanging of the artwork, please contact Barb Brummer at (618) 238-4497.
Our September meeting brought us an oil painter that specializes in photorealistic portraits. Jackie Tice shared a few of her pieces as well as numerous technique and material suggestions. We hope to have a workshop scheduled soon to further explore in oil paints with Jackie.
In order for both new and returning members to plan for upcoming shows, please find a list of our current displays and approximate months the display is changed. We are hoping this will help with planning throughout the year for our artists.
