President Notes February 2019
Twenty six members and guests were in attendance for our January meeting. Josie and Brad Shamhart, owners of Country Gem Shop gave a wonderful presentation of Brad’s knowledge and expertise of lapidary art combined with Josie’s ability to design and make beautiful Jewerly. They will again have a booth this year at the Effingham Farmer’s Market.

Featured Artist Of The Month
Ham Hampton will be our “FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH” for our February 12th meeting

February Meeting Information
Doris Johnson and Barb Althoff will provide refreshments for the February 12th meeting. The meeting will start at 7 PM in the Art Room at the Ron Dial Center, 1906 South Fourth Street, Effingham, IL.

Share Your Paintings
On the left Annabelle Black shared with us a wonderful painting she done of a pig. The painting on the right of a beautiful snow scene was done by Elizabeth Thurston. All members are encouraged to continue to bring their art to share.

February’s Presentation

Our February 12th presentation will be about the art of calligraphy by Carol Thomas of Sullivan, IL. Carol is a retired nurse who grew up in Cumberland County. She has lived around this area all of her life except for three years she and her husband Ed moved to the mountains of North Carolina. They currently live south of Sullivan. Carol has worked with calligraphy since taking a course in calligraphy in the early 90’s. She states calligraphy is something that she has really always enjoyed.

EAG Information
Two EAG members currently have their work displayed in town: Chris Detwiler has a showing of her art at the library. Jan VonBokel has a display of her art at Joe Sippers. Any EAG member interested in doing an individual show at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Library should contact Andrew Dougherty at:  andrew@effinghamlibrary.org or call the library at 217-342-2464 and ask for Andrew.

There will be sign up sheets at the February 12th meeting for sitters for the Children’s Art Show April 11th-13th, 2019. The flyer has been attached to this newsletter so you can save the date & share with family & friends.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Jacky Anderson Scholarship is February 28th so you might remind any student you know that wants to enter that time is short!

Barb Brummer has taken over the duties of setting up our traveling art displays. She has touched base with Shelly Coffin at SBL Bonutti Clinic and that show will be the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Shelly mentioned to Barb that there wasn’t as many pieces of work last year and they would encourage participants to submit up to 10 pieces of art. More information to come & we will post the entry form on the website closer to time.

The entry form for the 25th Annual Fine Art and Photography Show is being redone to reflect the move back to two categories of judging and awards (Amateur & Professional). The form will be on the website when finished & we will have copies available at the March EAG meeting, The show will again be at Broom’s Furniture with hanging on Friday, April 26th and the reception will be on Saturday, April 27th. The show will be open to the public on Monday, April 29th through Saturday, May 4th. Tear down and art pickup will be on Monday, May 6th.

We are working with the Effingham Surgical Associates, Dr’s Malone and Flaig and their staff to set up an Art Show in their office once again. This was postponed during interior and exterior renovation of their building and the new construction of an adjacent medical building. Further information to come!

We will discuss having a booth at the Artisan Fair on May 4th. We asked members to decide if they would like to participate to display & sell their art. Please be prepared to tell us if you wish to participate in the booth & we will take a vote to see if the members present are in agreement to proceed with the booth.

Our Sympathy and prayers go out to Fellow EAG member Dale Wagoner and his family for the very recent loss of his father, Russell Wagoner.
