The Southern Illinois Art Workshop, Inc. will hold its spring art retreat on May 19 – 21, 2014 at the DuBois Center Camp (west of Mount Vernon, IL). Two workshop classes will be held:
John Gabb, professional artist from Effingham, IL will mentor a plein air class. Students may work in the medium of their choice. Emphasis will be on providing suggestions and evaluation for the individual student. If you have questions please call John at 217-868-5948.
Lois Dickenson, longtime SIAW member and retired book preservation/repair specialist (library) will mentor a workshop where students may apply art mediums they know to the process of making their own art books. Students will learn basic bookbinding techniques, and experiment with altering existing books and/or creating books in alternative formats. Watercolor, pen & ink, colored & watercolor pencil, collage, and acrylic paints are suitable mediums for use in the workshop. Retreat Special: Come enjoy the collegial atmosphere! Bring your own special art project to work on while enjoying the great people and food at the retreat without participating in either of the instructional workshops.
The art retreat runs from noon on Monday, May 19, through 4 pm on Wednesday, May 21. The fee of $195.00 covers seven meals, two nights lodging at the Dubois Center and instruction in the workshop of the student’s choice. Please request registration forms at email@example.com.
